C.A.E. CURRICULUM MODULES:

  • CULINARY ARTS

  • BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

PROJECT SUMMARY:

C.A.E.'s The “LEGITIMATE Hustle” work-study apprenticeship training course brings youth onto a nurturing working environment with community professionals and mentors that provide support, training and experiential learning opportunities in business. By working and earning money while in training, youth develop an “entrepreneurial spirit" that grows and helps to improve their lives and the community in which they live.

Students will manage and operate C.A.E.’s branded Mobile Hot Dog Stand and other fixed location sites such as, but not limited to, community centers, municipal facilities, local business offices, and churches.

Upon completion of course training, participating students will have successfully passed the exam to receive their ServSafe® Food Handler Certification and ServSafe® Food Manager Certification by year three.

WORKSHOP GOALS:

  1. Define food safety best practices.

  2. Learn to think, reason, reflect, and take action through the study of recurring, practical problems.

  3. Learn how to plan, build, promote, run and sustain a flourishing food-related business while gaining the necessary language, math, and communications skills needed for success.

  4. Create a social-cultural environment of youth entrepreneurship within the public, private and non-profit sectors.

  5. To prepare students for Family and Consumer Sciences-related careers.
