THE SYMPHONY METHOD
The Symphony Method has been formulated to serve as a culturally specific supplemental enrichment tool & process for low performing students. This methodology uniquely combines the artistic creativity extending from classical music composition with elements of symphonic performance. The Symphony Method specifically encompasses components of classical music that are superimposed on urban early childhood education.
This particular methodology was developed in response to the intense observation of students placed in academically subpar urban classrooms. We integrated & harnessed readily available skill sets of classically trained composers to solve problems in culturally relevant ways. One of the key components to the process re-examined the concepts of rote repetition. In an orchestral setting, classically trained musicians incorporate rote repetition to learn scales, arpeggios, etudes, and repertoire. Often times, these classically trained musicians must have the previously stated foundational skills in place in order to perform more complex symphonic material. If these basic foundational skills are not in place, the collective orchestra will be ill equipped to perform more advanced musical literature.
